Jessie Reyez’s album, Yessie: Soulful, intoxicatingly confident, and powerful. This album is a testament to her talent as what I can only define as an artist. Yessie embodies the feeling of a 2018 Jessie Reyes track, with more elevated notes as she plays with different melodies and genres. Diving into some favorites from the album, starting with Forever featuring 6lack. This really sets the tone for what the album embodies: an intense loving accompanied by mellow beats and romantic energy that is only amplified with her one of a kind voice. 6lack adds an amazing energy to this track that makes this song a one of a kind listening experience. Tito’s is another great track that shows off Jessie Reyez’s duality as an artist. We get to experience a fresh sound and charismatic energy that is more upbeat than the rest of the album, but fits so well with the energy. Mutual Friend is an intense song full of emotion and pain. There’s a reason why I hesitate to define Jessie as anything less than an artist, and I can justify this with Mutual Friend. A creative outlet for the woes of life and love, Mutual Friend plays with elements of grief and getting over an undeserving love-truly an experience. Listen to this playlist when you need to relate to feelings of a complicated love, when you get a spike in confidence, or when you want an emotional filled playlist with killer vocals. The diversity of this album showcases a spectrum of emotions allowing so there's something for everyone.
