The Backseat Lovers made an emotional return on October 28th, 2022 with their incredibly sentimental album Waiting to Spill. Compared to their breakthrough album, When We Were Friends, we discover a shift from their original sound. However, tracks like Slowing Down, Words I Used, and Close Your Eyes still have some of those same indie rock elements that we fell in love with three years ago.

Silhouette starts the album off as the first song and beautifully sets the tone for the rest of the album. What I describe as a mature alternative ambiance for the album, Silhouette does an amazing job of embodying that mature feeling while showing off the band's brilliance. Emotional lyrics ranging from fear to consolidated realization- we follow just what inspired this new chapter for the band's music. “Do you wanna be- Like you father?”, From Close Your Eyes are the first two lines of the song, and they masterfully create that unnerving feeling of growing up and having no idea who you will become. I found this song the most captivating, but it’s pointless to pick a favorite as all these tracks contain astounding story telling.

This album couldn’t have come at a more perfect time. The mid-autumn moody feels are just getting started and there’s no better album to accompany these pre-winter scaries than Waiting to Spill.
