From Montería, Colombia to NYC, New York, reggaetonero Manuel Turizo makes his long awaited comeback to United Palace. After just two years of celebrating his last album and tour Dopamina, Turizo returned to make more memories with the Latinos of NYC on October 13. With the night cold and rainy, everyone had been piling in since the doors opened, and you could tell just by the buzz and excitement in the room, that the night had only just begun.

Manuel Turizo is an artist who shows no limits when it comes to his musical career. Since reaching worldwide fame at only 16 with his first ever single “Una Lady Como Tú,” Turizo makes it clear that he’s not quite done showing the world all that he has to offer to the scenes by making each release a different genre. Over the years, Turizo has stepped foot into the worlds of bachata, merengue, and música mexicana. With the help of his brother/producer Julian Turizo, his musical personality is something else. But I think that this tour all together, alludes to an entirely different level.

Like any Latino artist on tour, there were no openers. However, I feel that this gave Manuel Turizo and his team more room to go all out and make this tour so special. With the powerful choreography performed by the dancers, as well as simply more time for interactions, you could tell that this crew was having insane amounts of fun just by the expressions on their faces.

Starting his set off with “La Nota,” Turizo’s collaboration with Puerto Rican stars Myke Towers and Rauw Alejandro, everyone knew that they were in for a night full of fan favorites. He then winds through “Mala Costumbre'' feat. Wisin y Yandel before going into “Amor en Coma” ft. Maluma. In the middle of these songs, Turizo pauses for a second to take in the amount of people he saw before his eyes as they sang his songs. He looks out into the crowd and begins to smile at the signs people held up, as well as look at all the flags coming from all over the world, making him realize that his music truly has reached everywhere he could ever imagine.

Turizo then takes a pause in his set to introduce and set the stage for the person who he has valued most in his entire career, his brother. Manuel brings Julian to the spotlight as they sit down with the crowd and get a little sentimental while singing their first hit together, “Una Lady Como Tú.” Just by the way the two siblings look at each other on stage, they really demonstrate how much of a bond the two truly have together. This is also where this tour’s creativeness gets to shine. Throughout the show, the megatron that sat in the back showed the different aesthetic of each song, having clips from music videos but also filming from a camera on stage. This made the onstage film look like Polaroids sitting on a table.

On top of the visuals themselves, Turizo also made time for various costume changes. From the beginning up until “Esclavos de Tus Besos” ft. Ozuna, Turizo wore an all black outfit with some matching sunglasses. After the song finished, it felt as though Act I of a play had just ended, leaving the crowd to sit through a quick intermission and wait to see what's left of the story. However, once “DE LUNES A LUNES” began to play, the lights flashed to reveal a lamp and Manuel sitting on a couch. The crowd sees him with a cup in his hand witnessing him “drinking his sorrows away,” a direct reflection to the lyrics in the song as he sings, “Y me tienes tomando de lunes a lunes. Ya casi no duermo por pensar en ti.”

Manuel “ended” the night with his song with Piso 21 “Déjala Que Vuelva,” but the crowd knew that it wasn’t over just yet. They knew he had two songs left in him. So much so that they had begun chanting “Otra! Otra!” as soon as the artist left the stage up and until he came back for one last costume change.

Manuel Turizo ended for good this time with his two most popular songs to date “La Bachata” and “El Merengue” both songs based on the genres in the title. These two songs make an amazing way to close off such a special show, a positive one for sure. The crowd was enjoying the set from beginning to end, and this tour is one that will always be remembered for its elaborate creativeness.
