Asinine Relevance is a punk rock trio hailing from Lacey Township, New Jersey, and they’re a part of the new generation of teens entering the newly defined world that is Jersey’s punk rock scene. With Aidan Kretzer on vocals and guitar, Dan Watkins on the drums, and Kian Ruggiero on bass, the three high school seniors make their exciting and highly anticipated debut.

On September 13, the band released their first two singles together as a band called “How Funny” and “Big Dog.” With these songs, they are finally able to show off who they are as a band and express their style with absolutely no limits. Then, they quickly released another set of singles, “Jerk Rats” and “What Mind,” with hope to soon release a full length album of their own. In a way, Asinine Relevance truly gives off the vibe and essence of what the punk scene once was. They mix the old with their own flair, giving their music a new modern feel. I feel this especially during “Big Dog,” their first set of singles. For this song specifically, the sound and essence alone reminds me of 80s metal/rock bands like Deftones and Nirvana, two of which I’m sure they take inspiration from. Asinine Relevance helps give off a nostalgic feeling for the older generations, while at the same time, providing something else for the newer ones.

Of course, this is only the beginning for this trio, but an amazing way to kick-start a career, with hopefully more music on the way. These boys give a fresh start to what will be the future for this genre and have already started performing at live shows around New Jersey spreading their songs. It’s incredible and also becoming so increasingly rare to see bands like Asinine Relevance grow. So, don’t blink, or you’ll miss them!
