Now what’s love without loss? A telenovela without all the dramatics? Or an album full of heartbreak, without exploring the unknown?
If there’s one thing to prepare for when Palm Springs native DannyLux releases new music, it’s to expect the unexpected. At only age 19, Danny has been able to top the Latin charts with songs like “Jugaste y Sufrí '' with Eslabón Armado and “Perdido En Ti” as well. It’s not everyday that a 19 year old gets to say that they’ve opened for bands as big as Coldplay, or played their hometown festival (Coachella), yet the Chicano-singer has achieved both while still creating a name for himself.
After much waiting, Danny is welcoming people into the new world that is his new album, dLUX. From covers, to duets with fan favorites of the Regional Mexican scene, this album has it all. The singer winds through love and loss, while exploring so many genres that make this album relatable, giving it a sound for everyone. With this album, the artist drops hints of reggae, bossa nova, house/EDM, country, and even bachata, dropping a new-found confidence and proving that música mexicana isn’t one of his only specialties. Danny has shown time and time again that this album was made to defy the genre box, showing artistic growth and evolution. He wants to prove to the world that he is a part of this new generation that is música mexicana.
As always, Danny continues to provide fans with what they truly want, his own authenticity. Inspired by heartbreak, he does what every artist does best, he writes his feelings out in songs. While being himself, Danny also hopes to show off the best version of himself, which is where the album name dLUX comes from. This truly feels limitless, revealing that Danny is coming into his true form and style.
And of course, he doesn’t shy away from new collaborations. While he invites Eslabon Armado back for the fourth time with “Me Cambiaste,” he features artists like Venezuelan singer-songwriter Maye with “MI HOGAR” and indie star Cuco with “Decir Adiós: Oye Narrador,” two artists he’s long admired.
On this versatile album, Danny also includes a cover of Feid’s “FERXXO 100.” Danny reveals that he’s always admired the Colombian reggaetonero as an artist. In an interview with Remezcla he explains, “[he] was listening to it on repeat for two weeks. Every day, just listening to it.” With this cover, the artist shows off his true innovativeness. He changes the true meaning of the song that once started as an upbeat reggaeton song made to dance the feelings of heartbreak away, to a slow and dreamy ballad that you could cry your heart out to.
Moving on to their fourth collaboration now, Danny teams up with Eslabon Armardo once again to create the song “Me Cambiaste.” The song translates exactly to what the title means, “You changed me”. The song talks about how while going through everyday life, the girl he talks about changed him. The two parties actually recorded the song the same day that Eslabon Armado recorded one of their hit songs, “Ella Baila Sola” alongside Peso Pluma. Without hesitation, the song had actually leaked before the release and instantly became a quick fan favorite, giving a chance to the crowds during Danny’s Mexico tour to learn the song and sing along.
The standout song on this album would have to go to the fourth track, “Ambición.” The creative direction for this particular song sets it apart from the rest. It has so many rhythm and key changes as well as such powerful lyrics which is what makes this song so special. The lyrics pay homage to that one person who is always motivating you to go above and beyond and reach your goals. It’s really just about revealing how much that one person means to you.
This is only the beginning of DannyLux’s career and watching him reach his full potential as an artist, and this debut album proves just that. His uniqueness and versatility are what enables him to continue going far and breaking through in this industry. Keep on the lookout for DannyLux because with him, you never know what’s next.
